The elements within the wheel are important interconnected considerations in the manufacture of a range of products. Most of us are familiar with some of these issues from a consumer perspective. They are relevant to the processing of raw fibres, fabrics, and ultimately the finished products too. It is important to understand that isolated decisions regarding fibre or fabric choice alone will not automatically make a product significantly more sustainable. The impact of a fibre or fabric needs to be assessed with contextual understanding. Material choices should therefore be made with an awareness of the interrelated lifecycles of products: from the impacts of cultivation, processing, production, manufacture, distribution and also the consumers relationship with the product.
